Cancer registries are the source of information on incidence of cancer in defined populations, as well as on outcome, in terms of survival. They also provide
a framework for conducting epidemiological studies into the cause of different cancers. In many parts of the world, cancer registries provide the only available information on the nature and evolution of the
local cancer problem. The comparative value of the statistics which cancer registries produce depends upon the use of common methods, and definitions, so that international collaboration in this area has a
very important role.

A fellowship has been created by the Association in memory of Dr Calum S. Muir, who was president of the IACR from 1992 until his death in 1995. The fellowship is intended
to help personnel working in cancer registries to spend some time in host institutions which can offer learning opportunities not available locally.

In order to meet the needs of population-based cancer registries in developing countries an integrated suite of computer programs has been designed: CANREG.
The new version, Canreg4 has been completely rewritten to be more powerful and robust.
CanReg4 is provided as a service by the Descriptive Epidemiology Unit to members of the International Association of Cancer Registries.
