IACR 2010 - Yokohama

Training programmes included a course on “Cancer survival: practical use of cancer registry data in cancer control” (50 participants) and a workshop on CanReg5: a practical guide to its use (20 participants).

The Executive Board Meeting took place on 11 October.  Issues discussed at the meeting were reported at the Business Meeting, which was held on 14 October and are reported in this Newsletter.

The Business Meeting, recorded this year the best attendance with 102 participants. During the meeting, an Honorary Membership was awarded to Dr Akira Oshima (Japan) for his lifelong contribution to cancer registration and more broadly cancer research.  The presentation was made by Dr Hideaki Tsukuma (Japan).

The Closing Ceremony included the award for the best posters, conferred to Midori Soda (Japan), Zakiko Ajiti, Tomomi Manugame (Japan) and Chia-Hung Liu (Taiwan, China). This was followed by a presentation of the 2011 meeting by Shyam Manraj (Mauritius) and the Enrico Anglesio Prize Award.

THE ENRICO ANGLESIO PRIZE

At the IACR 2010, we establish a new prize for a talented young epidemiologist. The Fondo Anglesio Moroni offers the Enrico Anglesio Prize for the IACR's annual scientific meeting.

The first prize was awarded to Yuri Ito from Osaka (Japan) for her presentation of the study: "Trends in cure fraction for colorectal cancer in Osaka, Japan, between 1975 and 2000".
