Description

Functions and Structure of MCR

The Munich Cancer Registry (MCR) is a conjoint facility of the medical faculties of the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU) and the Technical University of Munich (TUM), and is administrated by the Institute of Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology (IBE) in Munich. The MCR is one of six clinical cancer registries in Bavaria. All registries are sponsored by the Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment and Public Health (StMUG).

The cancer registration in Munich started cooperating initially with a few medical departments of the LMU in 1978, and continued later with TUM institutes. The registration was constantly extended in order to accomplish an exhaustive population-based documentation of cancer diseases by cooperating with all comprehensive health care providers in the region. At present, the MCR collaborates with almost all cancer units in Upper Bavaria including Landshut county covering a population of 4.64 million inhabitants.
